Badin Lake Sunset

Recently, my husband and I spent a couple of days camping on the shores of Badin Lake (near Troy, NC). One evening we were blessed with a beautiful sunset, which I have tried to capture on canvas. This 16X20 painting will soon be available for purchase.

The Mountain to the Sea Trail

Mountain to the Sea Trail (lg)

Mountain to the Sea Trail (lg)

On our recent trip to the Asheville area, we spent part of an afternoon on the Mountain to the Sea Trail near the Blue Ridge Parkway just outside the Bent Creek section of the Pisgah National Forest.

This painting was done from a photograph we took on the trail. It will be available soon on e-bay. More to come!

The Waterfall Paintings

On our hike to Moore Cove Falls there was huge rock with a tree growing on the top. Either from the wind or some other reason it was all twisty and blown around looking. It had a lot of character and I decided to paint it. It came out looking more abstract than impressionistic, but here it is J

I also painted this little stream with a waterfall. There were several of these along the way. I guess they are too small to get names, but they are beautiful anyway.

The Waterfalls

One of the things we did while camping was to spend an afternoon in the Brevard area visiting the waterfalls. I will certainly be painting one or more of these! We saw Looking Glass Falls, Moore Cove Falls and Slick Rock Falls.

The first picture is of Looking Glass Falls and the second one is me standing under the falls at Moore Cove. If you are ever in the Brevard area, I recommend seeing as many of these wonders of God’s Creation as possible!

Mountain View

Here is a “Bob Ross-ish” Mountain I did for practice before we went to the mountains. I knew there would be some mountain paintings to come. This one is now for sale at the gallery of the Onslow Arts Council. More to come!

A Week at Bent Creek

My husband and I just returned from a week of camping in the Bent Creek area of the Pisgah National Forest near Asheville.

There was much to take in, and I will try to begin sharing through my paintings in the near future.

We hiked a little on the Mountain to Sea Trail off the Blue Ridge Parkway, watched a sunset from the Parkway, saw some waterfalls, hiked up Mount Pisgah and Max Patch Mountain, hiked some on the Appalachian Trail – and took time out to paint a couple of plein air paintings and visited the NC Arboretum (including an art exhibit in their gallery).

Most of all we took in the beauty of God’s creation all along the way.

I’ve included a picture of me at work under the tent – it was sprinkling rain – just to show it wasn’t all play J

The Old Country Fence

There are many fences like this across the fields and country side of North Carolina.

I’ve included a photo of the painting. The paint is still wet and I’ll add another photo as it dries.

This is my third oil painting and I’m still getting used to the medium. I enjoy painting the beautiful things God has given us. I hope you enjoy the painting and His creation as well.

Steve’s Rock

My brother, Steve told me in a recent comment on this blog to go paint a rock.

So, I did.

It gave me a chance to show the type of art I do. First, is it is called alla prima which means “in one sitting.” This painting was done in about an hour and a half.

It was also completed outdoors which is called plein air or in the open air.

I’ve included some pictures to show the progress of the work.

Getting started

Hello world!

Welcome to my blog! My first goal is to give glory to God though my art. I draw and paint different aspects of His creation  – nature, animals and landscapes primarily.

I hope you enjoy seeing the art make the transition from my perspective to the finished work.

Some of that work will be available for purchase, but I’ll keep you informed along the way.

The title of the blog is based on the fact that the Book of Psalms (songs) speaks so much of the Glory of God shown through His creation. For instance, Psalm 139:14 says, ” I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” (NKJV)

So, that is the song of my heart, to praise Him. That it my goal.
I hope you enjoy!
